So we actually made it here! The flight was really long, and was overnight, so we tried to sleep as best we could. We bought some of those neck pillows, and they are lifesavers!
After arriving, we got our rental car, a Mercedes! It seemed really cool at the time, until I realized that most of the cars over here are either a BMW or Mercedes, so it's really like having a Ford rental car. It has a navigations system built into the dashboard, but it really sucks. It took us forever to figure out how to enter a location that we wanted to find. We wanted to do some sightseeing in Frankfurt, but we didn't know where to go. I though the GPS system would have tourist info programmed into it, but it mainly just asks us what road we want. So after some aimless wandering, we decided to check into the hotel.
When we entered our room, it seemed so small! That is a recurring theme over here. Small. The cars are tiny, and the roads are very narrow. We found that our room had two twin beds, so Ben went to the front desk to ask for a king size bed. Yup, even the beds here are small because they don't have a room with anything bigger than a full size bed. We kept our room and just pushed the two beds together. They also don't use sheets here. Just a mattress cover and a duvet. It's weird not to sleep between sheets!
After a much needed jet-lag recovery nap, we decided to go and get some dinner. We went to the Marketplatz. It is an area with lots of shops, restaurants and businesses. Mostly it is just for foot traffic only. We found an Argentine steak house that looked and smelled good. It was interesting to try to talk to the waitress, who spoke just a little english. I am getting really good at the phrase: "Sprechen zie English." Most people do speak enought to be helpful. Everyone we have encountered was very helpful. Hopefully day two turns out just as well.

Looks like so much fun, minus the tiny beds. I hope you have a great time! We thought about you while we were making the pumpkins; I wish you had been there too!! We will wait for you to come back to make the haunted gingerbread houses. Hopefully our basement will be framed when you get back. I can't wait to see how your tile turned out!
Stadt mitte almost always has an info center with maps of the town/city and shopping. Where are you off to next?
After years of traveling without one of those neck pillows I broke down and bought one in May when my sis and mom and I went to Nashville. I will never travel without one now. Even on car rides. I even bought a small one for Liza.
Have a blast and take tons of photos. Look forward to living vicariously thru you.
Wow! Everything is small. It looks like your enjoying yourself. We missed you and your kids making pumpkins. Next time!
It kind of makes me sad we didn't go to London when you talk about your trip! Keep us posted, I love hearing about it.
It is so fun to see your picts while you are still there....isn't the internet wonderful. I hope that you have an awesome time. I hope the rest of your trip is great. Enjoy the time without your kids!!
BTW, did you give your primary keys to anyone??? I remember the code to your garage.... email me and we can work something out.

Looks like fun. I am so jealous, it has been forever since I have been over there. Did you take the kids too? Where are you staying I can try and recommend some good restaurants. If the kids are with you make sure you go to the McDonalds there, most of them have fun things with them. I think the one in Frankfurt has a trolley car that you can eat in. Where are you visiting? If you go to Heidelberg make sure to go to the castle. It is not to far from were I lived. Have lots of fun and sorry about all the small things. That is the way it goes some times.
